Memorial Day Weekend 2009
OH, what a weekend. It was tons of fun and a great connection with friends that we both needed very badly. To summarize, Anne Schuster, one of my college roommates and greatest friends, was in town over the weekend from Iowa. We spent time with her and several other friends that came into town because she was here, too. On Sunday night, we made plans with Kevin and Melissa to head to Surfside on Monday for Memorial Day. Yey!
It was a gorgeous day for beach weather!
Kevin, Melissa and Henry all took turns throwing the football or Frisbees, but not me, of course.
Henry even brought a club to hit some golf balls.
Aw, so cute!
Melissa and I were enjoying our cute husbands being like old men sitting out in the ocean in their chairs.
Here's stories from the weekend and hopefully some fun pictures, too.
First of all, we (Henry, Anne, K.C., Sterling, Cynthia, Mike, and me) went to the Astros vs. Rangers game (ugh, Disastros) on Saturday afternoon and had GREAT seats! We were right behind Hunter Pence only 7 rows up ;) Haha! Just kidding! It's quite clear that I spent the whole game talking anyway, so I didn't care. After the game, Wreckless Kelly played, and we watched them for a bit before heading down the street to a restaurant that we love called Cabo.
Well, that's where the fun began (sarcasm heavily intended). You see, while at the ball park, I called Cabo at 6pm and informed them that I was bringing 11 people for dinner. Rachel, Patrick, Carissa and Nick would be joining us. Anyway, the guy took down my name, the number of people, what time we'd be there and said there would be no problem. Great! I totally didn't think they even took reservations or call aheads because you normally seat yourself there.
When we arrived at 7pm or so, I asked a waiter about our reservation and he said they would probably have it upstairs. Upstairs all 11 of us went. I asked a waitress; she tells me someone will be right with us. Do you think they were 'right with us?' No! Finally, I ask a bartender and apparently the manager is standing there as well. I tell them the whole story, and the manager proceeds to check on things. I might like to say he wasn't happy about it though. The manager returns and says he doesn't have our reservation! "Ummm, are you kidding me?!" We asked him what he could do to help us, and he said, "Nothing." Wow. Thanks for caring, dude. Thankfully, Mike speedily responded with, "Ok, we'll just go somewhere else," trying to make a point to the manager that we don't need his business. The manager rudely responded with," Fine with me." Wow. Mike then informed the manager that he needed to run his restaurant a little better because all we can do is call. The manager said he agreed, and we were off.
auahuauahauah! So, we decide to head down I45 to Gringo's near Henry and I's apartment. We are all so glad we'll have some Mexican food, enjoy each other's company and not have to worry about the rude people at Cabo. So, we pull up to Gringo's, I hop out of the car only to be immediately greeted by....
are you ready for this?
...the manager. Guess what he has to say? "We are having power issues and here's a coupon for free queso the next time you come." WHAT?! I just fell over knowing 11 people are behind us wanting food and not enjoying driving across Houston to get it. "We just drove from Downtown to come here!" I exclaimed. I couldn't take it and left my sweet husband to take care of it while I went to Casa Ole and went to the restroom. Once I returned, plans were made to go to Lupe Tortilla for dinner on Bay Area.
I called on the way, told our sad story, and the sweet hostesses prepared our table while we drove there and seated us as soon as we got there. Take lessons from Lupe Tortilla, Cabo!!!! In the end, we all had a wonderful meal and had great quality time with each other. I love my sweet friends :)
Anyway, Sunday the girls got together at Carissa and Nick's new crib (beautiful by the way) and just chatted and played with/watched Eden. Wow that girl is growing up way too fast.
Come Monday, our plans were a little more laid back and sun-filled. Henry, Kevin, Melissa and I loaded up the Supak truck and headed for Surfside beach. I've never liked a beach on the Texas coastline until this weekend. I'm so glad we went! That said, of course Henry thinks that Corpus is better. Haha!

What were you two discussing?
Then they came in and it was time to head home.
We had a wonderful weekend with friends and hopefully it won't be too long until we can do it all again!

Mike was very excited :)All of us girls at dinner! I (Krista) miss you ladies!!! Sandy got a birthday dessert from La Riviera! (the restaurant we ate dinner at) Henry and Adam sang her Happy Birthday.
We had so much fun spending time with friends that we really wish lived nearby! We're just thankful for the time we can spend with them.
More to come later on Ashlee's graduation :)

We have liftoff
I absolutely love my husband and how much turbo pumps/hydrostatic bearings/heat transfer/etc. gets him all excited. I think it's really awesome. I mean, yes, golf is exciting for him, too, but I don't think he gets as excited because he doesn't get to display his intelligence as much with golf ;)
See the difference in how excited he is about these fire producing liftoff things?! (I'm so not using any terms I learned that day, can you tell?) Now THIS...I get. :) Gosh...it's just so small.
He wanted to show you all the size of this one based on his size. Basically, it's huge, and it took three of these to make liftoff occur!
Henry is practicing landing the shuttle with this simulator. Um...crashing happened a lot. Plus, Henry learned what 'novice' means.
See, he was just so into it. So focused!
Nonetheless, my academically inclined hubby put his foot down and wanted to go to...
Dr. Childs would be proud. Yep, that's right. Us two twenty-somethings went to Space Center Houston. It's like being this age and going to Splashtown, in my opinion, but I totally understand that he likes the mechanical details and research discovery aspects of what Space Center Houston has to offer. So I agreed to make it his date day.
He doesn't know whether to be excited, act cool, or what. Haha! Let me just assure you that all those buttons were very exciting for him as he thought about what all they actually did.
Is it obvious that I'm like, "Do I REALLY have to take this picture?"See the difference in how excited he is about these fire producing liftoff things?! (I'm so not using any terms I learned that day, can you tell?) Now THIS...I get. :) Gosh...it's just so small.

Anyway, we had a fun date and then went to Kemah (yes, Kemah is open) to have dinner at Cadillac Bar. Yum! It was a really fun day!
